Dragon's Heir (acrylic December 2007): This painting is an illustration of a science fiction book which addresses the issue of generational curses.

Wolf (acrylic June, 2007); The wolf symbolizes loyalty and bravery.

Lion of Judah, (acrylic, 2007); This is a symbolic depcition of strenght and humility as the lion possesses a non threatening pose. The writing around the edges is Hebrew and reads "Lion of Judah"

Quiet Girl,( acrylic) 2004; Plain and simply, I was just practicing skin tone variations...no deep reason for this painting, except...PRACTICE.

Kamna, acrylic 2004, again PRACTICE, this time with golden hues. My palette here was limited to browns and golds.

I also do commissioned watercolors. This one is of a private home in the Cumberland Highlands.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTIST:

I wanted to take a moment and explain the name of my web-page and a name I often publish poetry and art under...NOCHIPA.

NOCHIPA is an ancient Mexican word meaning, always. Having a Nahautl heritage, I felt it was appropriate for me to use this word. Being a creator, having the abiltiy to make the things I see in my mind's eye take form, makes me ever aware that no thing comes into this world without a designer. There is ALWAYS a designer, ALWAYS a Creator. It is my deep personal belief that this Creator is not far from his creation and that he loves us unconditionally...ALWAYS, Nochipa. Ironcially, my birthname is Darlene which basically means "loved"...therefore Nochipa reminds me that I am always loved by the always Creator. I hope to somehow use my work to remind others that they, too, are always loved.

Highland holds a double meaning for me. It is the name of the Appalachian Region where I live and it reminds me that I am not "of this world" but from a "higher" place. I do not say that arrogantly, but in honesty. I believe that as Shakespeare once said, there are more things in Heaven and Earth than we could ever imagine or dream of. I believe that life in this world is but a shadow of that which lasts forever. That is the world I hope to point to with my work...a High Land.
